Samenvatting

Trisha Brown, one of the most acclaimed choreographers of contemporary dance, first came to notice in New York in the 1960s. With a group of like-minded artists that included Yvonne Rainer and Simone Forti, she pushed the limits of what was then considered appropriate movement for choreography, and changed modern dance forever. After founding her own company in 1970, Brown developed a unique choreography and style to compliment her ideas of movement. This video collection captures eighteen major performances from 1966 through 1979, as well as an in-depth interview with art historian Klaus Kertess wherein Brown talks about her early years in the New York dance community, various collaborative efforts and colleagues, and offers insights on her own work.
