an interview with designer konstantin grcic 8 Jul 2011 Friday, July 8, 2011, 4:30–5:30 pm The Stedelijk Museum and Premsela–Dutch Platform for Fashion and Design proudly announce a public interview at the museum with Konstantin Grcic, one of the leading product designers of our time. Dutch art historian and journalist Gert Staal will interview Konstantin Grcic about the iconic value of his work, the use of technology, the experimental nature of design and its relationship to industry. The talk is part of the Premsela series Pioneers of Industrial Culture. A reception will follow at the museum café for which the building will remain open until 7 pm. Grcic (b. 1965) trained as a furniture-maker and studied design at the Royal College of Art in London. Since establishing his own studio, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) in Munich, he has developed furniture, products and lighting for leading companies such as Vitra, Magis, Plank and Established & Sons. Many of his designs have won awards internationally and are in the permanent collections of prestigious museums all over the world. The Stedelijk Museum has 15 works by Grcic in its holdings. From July 8 on, the series Glove will be on show at the museum; vessels that Grcic designed in 2002 for the Dutch ceramics manufacturer Cor Unum. Grcic is the fifth guest in the Premsela series Pioneers of Industrial Culture. Earlier events include interviews with Michele De Lucchi and Gijs Bakker.
