Samenvatting

On March 8, International Women's Day, the Guerrilla Girls will give a lecture on sexism and racism in the art world. They are the featured guests of the Mama Cash Feminist Festival at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Guerrilla Girls These anonymous activists with their gorilla masks have been denouncing sexism and racism in the art and culture world for decades. With their sharp wit and even sharper analyses, they give curators, critics, collectors, filmmakers, and other creative producers a wake-up call. On March 8 feminists and art-lovers of the Netherlands have an unique opportunity to hear them speak live. Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam The Guerrilla Girls have visited the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam before: in 1995, they protested on the sidewalk in front of the museum’s former entrance on the Paulus Potterstraat. A photo of this moment is included in the timeline of the museum’s institutional history, shown in the stairwell to the permanent collection STEDELIJK BASE. Margriet Schavemaker, manager of education, interpretation, and publications of the Stedelijk and co-curator of STEDELIJK BASE, will join the Guerrilla Girls after their lecture in a discussion with the public about how the Stedelijk aims to include the work of female artists and artists of color in the canon.
